CSFF Blog Tour “The Shadow Lamp” – A Book Review
It’s time for the CSFF (Christian Science-Fiction & Fantasy) Tour. This month we’re reviewing The Shadow Lamp by Stephen Lawhead. Check out my fellow reviewers’ blogs (listed below) for their reviews. As part of the CSFF Blog Tour, I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
I can’t believe a year has gone by since the previous book in this series. However, as with most of Lawhead’s books, it was well worth the wait.
This is book 4 of a 5 book Bright Empire series. Feel free to go ahead and read my previous review for book 3. I strongly suggest starting with book 1, but Lawhead includes a comprehensive character description and summary which will help bring you up to speed. However it doesn’t go into detail explaining the mysterious phenomenon of inter-dimensional travel along ley lines, so just go and read the previous books.
All the major characters have significant roles in the book. The race is on to find the “skin map” and get to the “well of souls”. Eternal life is the reward but the cost is higher than anyone can fathom. The author takes the readers on a fast paced ride just as if you are traveling the ley lines together with the characters. This book is more of a page turner than the previous book, which as I stated in my previous review was the palate cleanser of this 5 course meal. This is the main the course and a lot of “meaty” concepts are served, such as dark mater, expanding universe, and meta-physics. Side dish of a potential love interest between Kit and the new girl, Cass round out a delicious story. Enjoy.
How does this series end? Will it end on a sweet note or an epic disaster? I guess we’ll have to just wait and see.
